This is my sorry excuse for a winding handle , does anyone if its possible to replace the knob? I bought it like this , honestly!
Its 'looks' like it may be possible to get the retaining washer off but then there's the problem of how to fix it back on again.

Use a cold chisel and split what's left of your old knob to remove it completely. That way you can put the knob shaft in a small vise, with the backside of the washer resting atop the vise jaws. Tighten the vise just enough to hold the crank in place. Use punch to drive the shaft out of the washer. If the end of the shaft has been peened heavily when originally assembled, you may need to grind a bit of the peened edges back enough to allow it to pass through the washer. Don't grind the peened portion away however, you'll need the length to peen it over again, after the new knob & new/re-used washer is in place.
