The overall condition looks nice enough, except that somebody refinished it rather poorly at some point and now it looks kinda like it's had a blonde rinse. Maple-y, almost. But with that as a base, and assuming it's not polyurethane, it could be made to look right again, I think. If somebody wanted to.

I thought it looked a little bit light... but some tinted lacquer could improve that...

Nice example of early 1926 in good shape. It has been lightened but I don't think it has a polyurethane finish as it doesn't appear to shine. However, I will point out that the grille cloth is incorrect. It doesn't look too bad but it is wrong.

I've bought machines in far worse condition... one of them a Credenza, in fact, with shredded grille cloth.

I think the lightness of the finish is due in part to the listing photos apparently having been taken out-doors, in bright sunlight.


I don't think it would "scream" quite as much in the average parlor...

The exterior finish has definitely been messed with. Note photo three (lid open) and compare inside and outside. A good refinish job might be able to match the interior, though. Worth a try.

It could be poly, they come in flat, satin, semi-gloss, and gloss finishes.
