I'm working on an Edison Standard and plan to replace the governor springs. I've found that the weights are not attached to the springs with screws but from some sort of rivet. I'd appreciate any suggestion on how to use the old weights with the new springs. Thanks, Jerry

When I had the same problem a couple years ago I was told that I had to replace the springs with the weights, since they were not sold separately.

Yes you do have to replace them as a unit. I had a conversation with Ron Sitko about this last year about it in which he explained how they are made. I had thought that the springs might have been pinned to the weight, however the weight is machined with a little nub in the center which is peened over to hold the spring in place. He does have them in stock, about $4.00 ea. I think.

Hi Jerry,
If you have a lathe, you can drill out the rivets, tap for a set screw and re-use the old weights.
