So, am I better off with a 2-clip + Automatic Standard or a 4-clip + C Standard ?

I believe the Automatic will allow you to play brown-wax cylinders... the tail-weight on C is too heavy for brown-wax.

Don't know if this applies to you situation or not, but might be worth considering.

Why not buy whichever model you want and buy both Automatic and winged-C reproducers? Then you could play brown wax without damage and also play black wax without blasting.

You could also buy a Model B reproducer to play your brown wax. Much cheaper than an Automatic.

If you like good sound go with the C reproducer machine. If you like a less common old school look, go with the Automatic.

The point is, you should not play brown wax with a C reproducer because it will more rapidly wear them out. While the Automatic is best suited for brown wax cylinders, they typically don't play the louder molded cylinders very well - the stiff glass diaphragm blasts when playing loud records. Different jobs, different tools.

Dan,

I am old school.
I like the earlier 2-clip with Automatic.
Probably not going to be your daily driver, but looks cool!

Well if you think at all like I do, you are probably better off with both

Seriously though if listening pleasure is your goal I'd go with something other than an A model Standard of any sort. They are certainly interesting and collectible machines though.
