It's a Victor II not a III. From the description on both machines, I'd guess the seller knows very little about talking machines. There is nothing that beats putting your hands on a machine and really looking it over. You really can't do that on ebay but you can at a show like Wayne, Orlando, Union, or APS. If you or any new collector would like to avoid mistake purchases, the best way is to become knowledgeable or get advice from a collector friend. I have forty years of collecting experience and I'll still get a second opinion on some things. Just last year at Union I was approached by a newer collector friend who said he'd like to step up and buy a Triumph. We walked around Union and I gave my opinion on all the Triumphs available for sale. There are very few bargains on ebay. I would expect to see about six Vic I's and III's at Union any given year. I realize it may be impractical to travel to a show. It's always a good idea to get acquainted with collectors in your location. Jerry Blais

Thank you very much for the advice. I am currently not looking for a machine. I just like learning about the machines through comments.

It's great to ask questions and to educate yourself. Like I mentioned, I've collected forty plus years but I started collecting bicycles from the forties through sixties a few years ago. As a new bike collector I made minor buying mistakes and it's all part of the learning curve. The goal is to make them minor and not major mistakes. Jerry B.

It's also highly recommended to buy at least one good book....

Thanks for all the input.
Which books would you recommend to learn about original parts of Victor Talking Machines?
