I have looked for this record for 20 yrs. and have only seen two in person and one on eBay - all way out of my price range. On Friday, I found my record along with a nice selection of center start Pathés... all within my price range. :)

I have seen a larger number of these over the years, including Carusos. But the recording surface was always more or less crazed, flaking off on bad copies. Only the best specimen seem playable.

Great find! Those first Pathé disks are scarce as rooster's teeth. I have seen only pictures, never an actual record. I understand they are made from a cement compound and have a thin wax coating that always disintegrates. How thick is the record?

The record is approx. 3/16 thick and made of the cement like compound that was mentioned... This example doesn't have any of the recording left on the other side, but I was just happy to find one in any condition that I could afford. This came from Jean Paul Agnard... The two that I saw in Paris were also missing most of the recording surface and were at Phonogalerie.
