Can selections be recorded much louder than the actual sound

I was just listening to a you tube video of the william tell overture. A selection I have an like.. The sound was extremely loud though out the piece. Mine starts with a much lower volume and builds toward the end. The only video I made was once with my camera and I just let it play, but perhaps some people boost the sound? Just wondering if mine is playing to softly or is the video extra loud? I think it was a video by Past finder frank?

Larry,

This is only a guess, but what is probably at work here is the "auto gain" feature on most video cameras. Although it can be useful, I generally like to shoot without it. Certainly one can boost volume in the camera's onboard amplifier (and resulting background noise) to record a stronger signal. This is one of the main advantages of the electrical process that must have secretly nettled old TAE. No matter how refined his acoustic process was, it couldn't do that (with the possible exception of the Higham process).

Thanks Martin

I only made one video with my Sony Camera which by now is probably more than 10 years old. It actually surprised me and sounded very much like the phonograph. But on tying to make another I managed to let the thin camera fall off the stand I had put it on an after that I had a lot of raspy sounds which wrecked it. I am tempted to try it again just to see, but maneuvering to You Tube is something I still haven't mastered other than that one of my True Tone Diaphragm. I would love to be able to put up records now that I have the Bruce Stylus as it has made things much clearer and more detailed. What to look for if I do need to get a new camera I am not sure of. By now perhaps they have a more straight forward way of transferring the video to You Tube from the computer. I have an apple I got recently and I wish I had the old one back many days. Everything seems more complicated so I haven't even looked at the IMovie part of it as yet.

Most video made with webcams, hand held video cameras, have automatic volume control. Sometimes when I make my youtube videos, I now use Audiacity, or Pro Tools, to make the sound track. For better quality sound I am now using a Scarlett pro aduio sound card, and Sterling Audio Studio Condenser microphone and a Behringer 2442 mixer. I am going to try to shoot some acousic phonographs with stereo mic setup to give more depth.
