Here is a very nice and solid floor crane. This one was advertised in both Hawthorn and Sheble catalogs as well as Columbia catalogs at the turn of the century. It is unusual as it retains the original black japanning. Japanning was a lower cost finish than nickel plating, making this crane, referred to as the No. 1, an entry level crane.
It is in very good condition with normal surface wear. All parts are original and functional and could hold small and large cranes alike. It retains the distinctive “J” hook that I think makes this a particularly handsom crane.
