Blue Amberol date of manufacture question

My question was originally to have been, as follows:

My understanding is that these were produced from 1912 to 1929, and the date is frequently on the cylinder.

For example:

23001 Poet and Peasant Overture N.M. Band. Thomas A Edison [Signature] 13. Meaning this was manufactured in 1913.

However, I researched cylinder 23001, and noted it was released in 1910 as a Blue Amberol. So, then, what does the 13 mean?

My question was supposed to have inquired that, if 13 means 1913, what does it mean when a cylinder has only one digit, such as 2641, I Didn't Raise My Boy to be a Soldier. Jaudas Society Orchestra, with a single number 9.

So what do these digits mean, 9 or 13, or otherwise, single digit or two digit sequence?

The 13 (or 9 or any other number after "Pat'd") is the mold number, not the date of recording.

Also of interest, the number of dots after "Pat'd" is the "take" number, so "Pat'd." is take 1, "Pat'd..." is take 3, etc.

Alan Sutton's Blue Amberol book provides very specific information about every Blue Amberol record ever released.

It is also worth noting that quite a number of titles originally issued as 4 minute wax Amberols were later moulded in celluloid and reissued as Blue Amberols. These include the Peter Dawson titles in the 23000 British Series.

Elsewhere on the forum, you can find a link to a spreadsheet of Edison recordings, both disc and cylinder. It has stood me in good stead for some time...

As stated above, The number of dots is the "take" number, and the number after is the "mold" or "master mold" number.
