How common is an Edison A-200 in oak and what kind of value would they have?

I have no idea as to common-ness or value, but that looks like a very nice example.

With the brown bed-plate and assuming a pull-out drawer for storage, I would guess quite a bit less-common than the later H-19, S-19, similar small upright DD players.

Does this machine have a single or double spring motor?

To quote Frow:

"... in October 1913, the A-200 had had an unspecified uplift......... There are grounds for thinking that this month a double spring motor was fitted for an unstated time..... Total sales of the A-200 to the end of December 1914 had been 8,725."

Hope this info is of some use.

A handsome machine and this one appears to be in excellent condition, at least cosmetically. I could not find any recent completed sale on eBay, but if it checks out mechanically I would guess $300 to $500. With big machines a lot will depend on where they are, with better prices I would think if they are located near a large population center with a better stock of potential buyers.

This is a single spring model A-200. I did go to see it last night. It is very nice but the top veneer has been replaced and the spring is weak. The little finger ring on the back door is missing also. The seller is asking $350.

How noticeable is the veneer-job ?

The spring and pull-ring sound like relatively "easy" fixes...

The lighting wasn't the best in the garage where it is. The top was veneered in oak but not ¼ sawn. The finish is a close to the rest of the cover but not the best match.

I dunno... does it fill a significant gap in your collection ?

If it looks presentable, I don't think $350 is outrageous... but, not seeing the top I couldn't say for sure...

It fills a "former" gap in my collection. Thanks very much to Phono-Phan for facilitating the purchase. I will pick it up in June. :D
