Hi from across the pond !
Can anyone tell me what model this large brass horned Columbia is and the date ? The horn came with a fitted case which has 1912 inside it - would that be correct ?
Thanks
Andrew

Sorry but I can't identify but that is one good looking outfit. I really like the horn. Jerry B.

That looks to be a Columbia # 6 reprodcuer, with the big strut connecting the pivot-bosses for the needle-bar, and the speed and brake controls looks similar to those on my 1912-1914 era Grafonolas...

Any idea how many spring barrels in the motor?

What diameter is the turn-table platter ?

The horn might be aftermarket, might be Columbia... in the 1906-1910 era, they were big on nickel-plated brass flat-paneled horns, then around 1910-12, they stared moving towards embossed horns...

Looks like a nice machine...

City of London Phono & Gramo Society's page says this is a REGAL. Their horn seems to show old nickel plate that's been mostly lost or removed (or is that solder?), and yours appears to have a few traces of nickel, here and there. Does yours have the same tone-arm?

Thanks for all the info - it is identical to the "Regal" you found. There are no traces of the horn ever being coated in anything so I think it was always brass. One interesting thing about it is that it came with a fitted carrying case for the horn, the lining of which has photos of the Oxford University cricket team of 1912 so I assume it was made for one of the team !

Hi

I have the same machine, mine is mahogany with the smooth mahogany horn, I have never been able to identify it either.

What a neat machine to have, especially with that horn case.

Frank asked the right question. How many springs does the motor have?

From the 1913/14 UK catalogue illustrations below, Marcel's machine appears to be a No.5 and Andrew's could be a No.6. The No.6 had a triple spring motor but the similar looking No.3 had a double spring motor, so the question remains "how many springs?"

Thanks for the info - that advert is really helpful. I have just had a look and can confirm it has 2 springs so must be the number 3 of c1913/14.

Really appreciate everyone's help with this !
