The data plate says it a VV-IV, but I think it's had a few parts swapped

it looks like the motorboard motor and crank are off of a victor victrola IV

and a quite strange aluminum back bracket and victrola tone arm

It is a IV. They've attached a piece of oak to cover the doors, put trim over the corners to help hide that fact, and you'll notice the backbracket is attached to a plate that covers where the tone arm and horn connected.

However, all the parts (including the back bracket), look authentic, so you have a few hundred dollars in parts there. Not sure if you have $500 worth of parts, but probably at least $300.

Sorry, but I don't see it... it's not a IV and the parts aren't worth anything unless you want to reconstruct this same piece of junk. Even if it were a IV or had parts from a IV, you can find an original machine in good condition for less than $300, that works. The parts look like they are off of a UK machine or some other foreign machine...

It has everything you would expect for the VV-IV of the serial number on the machine. You can even see where the data plate was originally. It has the simple speed adjustment, a screw down motor board, and evidence that they covered up the whole where the tone arm bracket went into the internal horn. Take a good look at a VV-IV, and imagine this machine without the extra corner trim that was (poorly) added.

The back bracket looks to me to it could be a later Victor type (that used the slip in elbow). If so, that alone could make the value close to $300. If not, then, I agree, the value probably wouldn't add up to $300. Otherwise, I think the horn is pretty much worthless (could be wrong); parts of the VV-IV, I probably wouldn't give it more than $50-75. Looks like it could be a Vic 2 reproducer, so that's probably good for $30.

After a closer look, I can see what you mean about a Victor (Victrola) IV... its just in disguise.

This was relisted with a starting bid of $500.00 with a buy it now price of $1000.00. In thier description the seller says they will take a loss? They couldn't sell it for $500.00, so they think they can sell it for the great price of $1000.00?

Are you really surprised? I think it's been about 5 years now that a seller's been trying to sell his beat the heck up VV-50 for over $2k....and I think the price started at around $1300. Guess he has to account for inflation and increased overhead charges in storing it?

Nothing surprises me on ebay anymore.
