And still they turn up..........

You never know what will turn up next ! Here is an itinerant Expert Senior horn spotted by an observant friend last week in an antique shop in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada mounted on a Christmas tree holder. It is now winging its merry way to the UK where some of the missing parts are waiting to re-create a full gramophone. Patterns and castings will have to be made to replace the missing conduits. Sadly there are two large dents (not immediately seen) which have recently occurred as a result of careless handling which will have to be repaired but otherwise the structural strength is fine.

The history is a little vague but the horn was apparently used in a dance hall situation "as an amplifier in conjunction with a gramophone". This presumably means that a loud speaker was involved in some way ? No more details were forthcoming except that it came from Phoenix, Arizona six months ago and was sold as part of the estate of the long-standing family owners.

A well travelled item.....!

That certainly must have been meant to happen! Whatever about any of us coming upon an entire gramophone - what are the chances that a horn like that should be found by possibly the one person on the planet who has the wherewithal to fix it up with a new bionic conduit and case?! It's going to be the EMGinn version of "BLIND DATE!" After all its travels, it finally gets to bond with a soulmate (of the metallic wooden variety!)
Its profile looks perfect if I'm not mistaken.
Uplifting news Graham! Wonderful!

Well done, another one rescued. I wonder how many Expert gramophones ended up in Canada?. I've not heard of any EMG's being found there.

Despite impossible odds, after long wanderings (and probably in the face of the very real danger of deliquescing in somebody's dank, moldy garden shed) this irreplaceable artifact has found a home with the man who can restore it back to its former glory and make it sing again. It's almost as though the hand of fate had brought you two together, Graham. What a wonderful story! It's a bit like turning up a Shakespeare Folio in the book bin at Oxfam: the whole world is made a little bit richer by the discovery.

Exactly! Or like this painting ,one of the few Leonardo "discoveries" in recent decades that's actually by Leonardo. It recently sold for upwards of $75 million dollars, but the seller (whom I know) bought it as a copy after a lost Leonardo and hence the price he paid was probably in only four digits. More amazingly, it had sold for 45 pounds in 1956!
