Hi guys,

This has turned up at a local online auction, says it works beautifully which is nice because we all know the cost to get them running. My concern is the cabinet looks rough, you can see around the doors that the wood is swollen, possibly warped.

It's tempting but with the damage it's not very presentable. What do you think it's worth?

It looks to me like the veneer is delaminating on the doors but you can fix that without too much trouble. The good thing is that the veneer is all there, so you can glue it back down. Other than that it looks good. I can't tell for sure if the wood is mahogany is walnut or walnut, but if it is walnut that definitely adds value. Nothing appears to be missing and if it does run as they say, keep a close eye on it if you are interested.

It's from 1918 which doesn't make it such an early model as they claim.
I don't see any warping which would be a pain to correct but I do see evidence of veneer coming loose which isn't a big deal. Look closely at picture #9. I'd be happy keeping the price at around $200.

At first glance in pic #1 the doors looked warped, but looking closer you guys are probably right. in order for it to be warped the rest of cabinet would be in much worse condition.

I have nowhere to put it, but it's a Victrola so yes, if it stays around the $200 range I might take a shot at it.

Read the rules of the auction closely; there is a buyer's premium of 10%. Add to that the HST which is 13% and your purchase price balloons quickly. Best of luck. It's a nice machine.

Yea I've given lots of money to this company, they're 2 mins up the road from where I work. They charge 13% (10% if cash) and they also take 13% I believe, from the seller. That's how they make their money, it's a pretty sweet gig!

I put a reserve bid on it. If it goes beyond that then oh well...Wish me luck!

It appears by the data plate and the Victor Data Book that is exactly like mine
and is a "J" model produced in 1918. Mine was in a tad bit better condition when
I got it but with just a little cleaning up, it looks great now. I'm sure thats all
this one needs, a little TLC. They are such a nice machine and sound great, and
this model has the wings on the back corners, which I think make it look so much
better. Good luck with the auction I hopw you get it
