Hi All,
Victor VI's are beautiful machines but $4500 is top dollar in todays market. For that kind of money it should be not have the horn glued into the elbow and the decals on the back bracket should be stronger. Looking at the horn and the wear on the decal it almost looks like the horn and perhaps the case may have been gone over with something like Formby's furniture refinisher. I don't think It is worth the full asking price.

I agree the back bracket decals are faded but the only thing ever put on the wood in the last 10 years is Kotten Klenser Lemon oil Beeswax after it was cleaned. If you are looking for a 100% perfect machine, you are probably looking for a refinished machine. Given that this is over 100 years old I stand by my assessment of a 9 out of 10 for an original machine of this caliber.

Then I agree the condition and color of the horn and cabinet look real nice. depending on what type of glue was used on the horn elbow perhaps it could be undone.

It's a nice looking machine for sure.
Hard to tell from the pictures but is the cup missing at the small end of the horn? Is that why the horn is glued to the elbow?

No the brass cup is present inside & out. The catch button (for lack of a better term) can also be seen securely in the elbow slot (although not in the posted pictures.
I'm not sure what was used to glue the horn in. possibly heat may loosen it up but I'm not taking any chances as it makes no difference to me.

First it is a real pretty machine.
The deal with the horn is that it is a early wood horn evidenced by the square rim, black background decal and the narrow end was different. These details are appropriate and original to the first generation speartips! The narrow end was not the same construction most of us are familiar with. It was a tin cup (not plated brass) and it has a formed “rivet” so it is not a rivet, but more of a bump or blister shape that fits the slot of the elbow. It is the same idea mechanically but not nearly as secure as it should have been, so the subsequent design change to a two piece rivet was certainly warranted. The early cup also had no outside rim, so the wood horn seems to extend directly from the elbow. John
