Steve, Depending on what model AJ you have, the BA motor should fit. The BN motor will not. Also, the BA turntable should be the same.

Thanks Harvey,
The motor I have doesn't fit so I guess I must have a BN motor

Hi Steve-- I've been going through parts today and ran across a box of Columbia stuff. What version AJ do you have? 1, 2 or 3 ?? Are there 4 motor mounting holes in a large rectangle pattern? I may have at least parts to a motor. I'll dig out all the parts and see what I can find--then send you some pictures.

Hi Steve- Attached are pictures of motors/parts I have-- Perhaps Harvey Kravitz will chime in here. He and I corresponded about the 2nd style AJ several months ago. I took one in on repair several months ago and had to tap Harvey's expertise to ID it because I hadn't seen that early motor before. There were (at least) two different motors used in the AJ2. The one in the link you provided (catalog picture posted by Pete) had the verticle governor and a nickle plated motor board. That is the earlier motor found in the AJ.

The later motor has the cast iron plate, sometimes marked "AK" and is found in the later AJ2 and also the AJ3, as well as other Columbias and client machines.

I believe your machine uses the later motor-- If you look at the catalog picture, you will see that the earlier motor with the verticle governor is pictured.... the speed control/on-off plunger protrudes through a hole in the case (opposite side from the decal). Your machine has the "u" shaped opening in the top edge of the case for the speed control/on-off that is perpendicular to the orientation of the crank. The speed control simply lowers into the "u" when the lid is closed.

That being said, I think the motor I have is "almost" the right one for your machine-- "Almost" because the spindle on mine was set up for a Standard turntable (½" spindle) to slide onto. I believe all you would need is the correct spindle. Take a look at the pictures and see what you think.

HARVEY?? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
