A great-playing model at a very low price -- someone will get a good deal with this one!

I really wish I had the space for this. I'm really considering it, despite the lack of space. After all, who needs space for a bed  It is really close to me, and I've always wanted an XVI.... I hope that someone here gets it!

I would already be on my way there, except I'm really out of room, plus I just brought-home a nice XIV from Buffalo last spring.

I too, hope that a TMF'er gets this.

Nathan, I'd really encourage you to "shoot first and ask questions later" with this. I got mine, a 1920 model, just last year around this time. It had been listed on Craigslist for about a month or so at $300, with no takers. The only picture was a poor one showing the lid down, and I thought perhaps it was a XIV. One day the seller reduced the price to $100 "or best offer" and I thought at that price even a XIV was at least worth a look.

It had been in an only-slightly-damp basement for thirty years, and was covered with a light coat of mold -- the one in Buffalo looks a lot better than mine did when I got it. The motor was obviously strong and not even kachunky at all.

The seller had sold the house, was moving shortly, and just wanted to get rid of it. I said to him, "since you asked for an offer, how about $80?". He smiled and told me that that would exactly double what he'd paid for it all those years ago, so...sure. We loaded it into the car and I brought it home not sure that I really wanted to make space for it, but I figured I could always sell it at a good profit once I spruced it up.

It cleaned up easily, and once I rebuilt the soundbox I found that it was a really good player. I'm awfully fond of it now, and I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon!

Definitely worth making room for. Who needs a bed, anyway? :D

I've always been a big fan of the XVI, I still own my "first" XVI, a later 1918 or so model with the #2 reproducer and Universal motor option. I bought it when I was 14 in 1987 for $150 that I had to BEG my father to loan me until I could mow enough lawns to pay for it. He did and I've had it ever since. It's funny thinking back, nearly 30 years ago this one had been in it's original home until my antique dealer friend helped clean the estate. It came with everything from instructions to albums, records and index book and it even still worked. With my recent VTLA acquisition, I now have eight variations of the VTLA / XVIs. Whoops.

I echo the sentiment, Nate, get it now and worry later.

You guys aren't helping, but I really appreciate it! I think I'll give them a call after classes today, and see if it is still available. To buy this would mean getting rid of my Consolette, which is fine. I don't have a reproducer for it, and it only serves as a stand for my Amberola. It would be a tight fit, but I have always wanted one of this model, and for this price, I don't want to let it get away. This would be a perfect project for spring break next week, even if my parents might kill me!

Not anymore...or so it seems. The listing has been deleted by the poster. It's too bad my son and his SO aren't as excited as I am about talking machines, this would have been perfect for them. :(

It looks like I'm too late. I guess I should have called while I was at school... At least I don't have to worry about making the space for it, though I'm sure I will never find another XVI at that price.
I do regret missing it, but I'm fond enough of my VV-105 to not be too mad at myself. The case may not be as fancy as an XVI, but it has the later style enlarged horn and sounds great. Plus, there will always be other XVI's.
