Is there any good reason this machine should be this expensive? I would have thought less than half this price, absolute tops... or is it special? Just curious...

I think it's a little bit later than 1910, given the bayonet-mount reproducer ( Columbia # 6 ), and the lever-type speed control.

Wonder how many springs in the motor...

I've got a very nice Col BN with original black horn for $750. It's a much better value. Jerry Blais

I bought a horn like that recently for $300 and the machine is basically a Standard Model A $350-400 without the horn, so $650-700 max in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies, I figured it was way too much. The BN is beautiful! I just bought a BI locally at about that 750 price. Wasn't looking to buy this expensive one, just wondered if there was a legit reason for that price.

I'm guessing that it has a famous pedigree, like a starring role in a 1930's Hollywood movie, and the seller just forgot to tell us.

You never know about stuff like this.

I think sometimes some sellers just take a chance
and attempt to sell something at an extremely high price
just to see if they might find someone who will buy it
at that price.

I'd be willing to bet that sometimes on some rare
occasions, they do strike it rich and make a sale
when they do that.

I think that because this sort of stuff is seen fairly
often that it must work at least often enough for it
to continue. If it never worked it would fade away.

But it continues so there must be some reason they
keep on doing it. Lots of loose cannons out there!

Back in the days when prices were high, these machines went for around $900.00. Like the others stated, the seller is totally clueless thinking they can get that kind of money. Then again, there are some people with more money than brains if they buy this machine at that price.

prices are at a very low point at the moment here in europe more so than in the usa however top pieces in mint condition fair quite a bit better columbia machines like this one isn't as common here as in the states a machine like this would easally fetch 800,- to 1000,- euro's (euro is pretty similar to the dollar at the moment)
than again its all in whats common or not i've seen Pathé cylinder machines like the Pathé coquette go for 750,- or more on us ebay wile you can buy them off ebay france for under 100,- euro's at times
