This sure looks nice..and with 116 records. I would guess it's an awesome price at $395

Looks like a common S-19 that's probably refinished. If the reproducer is good and the records are clean, it's not a horrible price, but IMHO it's no bargain.

Does the drop-front signify an earlier S-19 ?

How much are 100+ Diamond Discs worth ?

Yes, only the first year or so saw the drop-down door. My mother (who turns 94 later this month) remembers being warned by her grandmother to never sit on the open door of their oak S-19. I imagine lots of kids were sitting on them, and thus side-hinged door was born... :)

A pretty poor refinish I'd say, comparing the exterior to the inner surfaces under the lid and on the inside of the door.

That story about the role of children in the evolution of the door is brilliant and utterly convincing!

It may be no bargain in the USA, but in the UK it would be sold (to me) in a heartbeat.

you have to figure 100 diamond discs if they are in decent condition will be worth at very least $200, likely more... so $195 for the machine (if it's fully functional) seems fair to me anyway...
