Nickel Morning Glory Horn (Victor/HMV)

Hi All,
So I've got my hands back on the Mahogany Victor V I mentioned in another thread (http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... =2&t=21095) but I am concentrating on the Nickel horn that came with it for the time being.
I had originally thought it was Nickel on brass but it appears to be Nickel on steel, what I thought was brass is actually the layer of copper underneath. The end section which the elbow connects to is in actual fact nickeled brass. (Tested with magnets).
The patent date stamped on the end of the horn has the year 1906.
I know that Nickeled steel horns were available from other manufacturers but these where usually 3rd party and of the witches' hat variety.
Pics are attached.
So my questions are:
1. Is 1906 the last year stamped on these type of horns (trying to figure out if it matches the late Mahogany Victor 5 it came on)?
2. There appears to be a clear finish over the nickel on the outside of the horn, what is the safest way to remove this without damaging the nickel underneath?
3. Has anyone seen another? Was it advertised in an original catalogue as an option.
4. Any thoughts?
Best Regards,
Mario
