New Find: Victor VV-VIII with cabinet

Found this Victor VV-VIII at the Jersey Shore. It is serial #27975 dating from 1913. It is in very nice condition. My question is this, is the cabinet correct for the machine? It looks like the machine should sit down in the recessed on top. The machine sits on top and the rubber feet keep it in place perfectly. Does anyone have any information about this case?

I have a Victrola VIII with a cabinet very similar to yours. It sits just on top of the molding. To me, it looks like this cabinet and machine have been purchased together since new. It's nice to see a Victrola with a matching cabinet. Good find.

I'm generally not interested in floor models, but with this I would need to make an exception. Really nice.

Rich,
Very nice tandem!
Like Harvey said; The machine and cabinet look like a perfect match.

Hi Rich,
What you have is the combination for Victrola VIII on an appropriate "Cabinet that Matches". I believe the "Cabinet that Matches" product line was made by The Talking Machine Company out of Chicago. I know they made them for the outside horn Victors. I presume they continued for a while on the table top victrolas. I just sold at Wayne the Matching cabinet to the Victor XII. John

That's a very nice looking outfit. The VIII is not often seen and most seem to be golden oak but yours is a little darker. I wonder if the original price with the matching cabinet was much different than a VV-X or XI. Maybe the original owner wanted a machine that was somewhat portable. Jerry B.

Hi Jerry. Sometimes I try to figure out what people were thinking when they bought these machines but you just never know. I agree that most of the VIII you see are golden oak. The other one I've had for a while is golden oak but now that I found this set I will probably I will probably sell it. Here is a picture of the golden oak VIII.
