Hi Can anyone give me the dimensions for this bearing,i.e. length, diameter and bore. I have seen some made of brass, some of steel. Which is the best replacement for the pot metal.
Cheers Brian

I can't speak to dimensions, but I would think that brass would be better than steel simply because it will not rust. Rust is as much a killer as pot metal syndrome, as many of us can attest to. Possibly more, even, because it can spread beyond the initial part.

APSCO sells the best replacement one of these...Hands down.. Perfect fit and comes with correct screw depression pre-drilled.
It's pretty much Perfect!
Just to let all you know.

There is another bearing option that some restorers use: needle roller bearings, made by Timken (formerly Torrington). I have both a Home and a Standard fitted with those. I had to make an adapter sleeve for a particular model of bearing to fit in the Home, but another model bearing fits into the Standard directly.
Though not original to the Edison phonographs, those bearings have one great advantage over solid bearings, they come as near to frictionless as you will ever find. They cause a barely audible rumble as the mandrel turns, but the right grade of grease quiets them down. When the record plays, you don't hear them.

Hi Thanks for your comments
Yesterday I sent an email to ASPCO requesting the availability of a bearing, but now seen the item regarding there supplies and think an alternative would be required. Can anyone recommend another supplier.
Thanks Brian

Thanks Amberola
Telephoned Ron from the UK. Managed to speak to him regarding the bearing. Sent money and he sent me the bearing. Fitted it today. Worked perfectly. Bought the Model C Standard on Ebay for £85 with seized bearing and now need a winder and lid to complete. Case seems to be the Tall Standard with plain plinth. Really pleased with Ron's bearing. Great Guy. Thanks for information. Just need to set it up now and play some cylinders.
