The "Other" Charlotte update-- North Carolina Show

I wasn't able to go to Stanton's in Charlotte, MI-- But did attend the Charlotte, NC Phono Show this weekend. Overall, it was a great show. It's a shame there was a scheduling conflict with Stanton's Auction. The auction pulled many collectors to the north--- Hopefully next year there will be better coordination and it won't happen again. But..... I totally enjoyed my 6 hour trip south to NC.

The North Carolina show is in a great venue.... a large building that is part of the Metrolina Antiques Expo Center. Metrolina is a large complex of general antiques dealers that set up once monthly to sell their wares. Once a year, the Phono Show is held in the same complex. The phono show has it's own building that is part of the larger complex. Besides drawing phono collectors who attend the show specifically for phonographs and music boxes, there is a large contingent of general public/antiques buyers that come through the building as well. It's a great opportunity to share the hobby with folks who have little or no knowledge of phonographs--- and some of them even buy items from the dealers.

** One real plus for the show.... Though the "official" show is Friday-Sunday, collector/dealers are free to set up as early as Thursday (or Saturday if that's better for you!). We were able to drive our vehicles right into the building, right to our tables. No trucking items on dollies. My old body is very thankful for that perk!!

I had an excellent show, selling 4 of the 7 machines I took, plus a couple horns, numerous cylinder records, phono ads, reamers and many other smalls. I usually don't have a whole lot to sell, but I was very pleased with how the show went.

This was my third time attending the Charlotte, NC show-- I'll be back again next year!

Hi Mike-- I forgot to take my camera to the show---and I'm one of the "old guys" that still uses a "dumb-phone".. Hopefully some others took pics and can post them. The show was about half the size of the past 2 years--mostly due to the scheduling conflict with Stantons' but there was still a lot of machines, record cabinets (my friend Gene sold a nice Herzog half-barrel), music boxes, records, etc..
