Hi, one for the UK members , I think ! Anyone know anything about this cabinet (not mine but currently on Ebay) as I have had a very similar one for about 30yrs and have never seen another until now. Mine has a hinged front door instead of a roller shutter.(Photos appeared wrong way round !) #

Some British manufacturers, notably HMV, offered optional matching pedestals for their more expensive open horn machines. The example currently on UK eBay looks to be a generic pedestal to suit an oak cased machine of no particular make.
The seller states that the plaque on the gramophone is probably that of the retailer rather than the manufacturer. It shows a Norfolk location and the machine is still there 100 years later!
The gramophone could be a German/Swiss import and the pedestal could also be of European origin. Some European manufacturers used tambour roller doors such as this.

This pedestal sold on UK eBay today. It was close to home and I was tempted, but the prospect of stripping all that gloopy dark varnish stain and almost certainly removing the original finish beneath it was too much to contemplate.

Yes they are uncommon, but two have appeared on UK eBay within two weeks.
It may of course be two years before we see another.

Do you have the reference link to the eBay auction of the Tambour Pedestal? The link posted was for a different stand...

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me to list a horn gramophone with a non-matching pedestal as a single item! It might be an idea to sell them together, yes, but not as a single package. How many people who might be interested in the cabinet will also want the gramophone and more to the point for UK buyers, how many buyers who will want the horn gramophone will take that pedestal with it?
They obviously haven't got much of a clue. Money? Maybe, but common sense, no. This reminds me why I never look at eBay anymore.
