I'm hearing an Edison echo, echo, echo

When playing a record on one of my Edison Diamond Disc machines I heard a pronounced echo of the record contents, especially noticeable when the lid is up and fairly clearly coming from the reproducer itself. I swapped out the reproducer with a known good one and now no echo playing the same record.

I am assuming this means the original reproducer is in trouble. Any ideas on what would cause that?

Make sure the big pivot at the back of the weight is properly lubricated and able to move freely. You can back out the bolt partially, apply a drop or two of light machine oil, and work it from side to side until you feel improvement.

Thanks for the hint, however it swings freely.

I expect it is time for it to go to Steve Medved for some TLC.
