I was going by an antique store today and could see a Edison 10 panel cygnet horn in the window. So, I went in and found a cute (but refinished) Fireside. The case was nicely done and the dealer celluloid tag was very bright. However, I guess the restorer was not aware of Gregg Cline's decals and hand painted the Edison scroll on the front. So easy to remove and place a proper decal on. Thank goodness the bedplate was in great original condition.

The owner tells me the machine won't work. Sure enough, the spring must be broken or detached. The spring on the horn hanger is missing and the round knurled nut as well. Not too big deal to get these small parts. I don't think... .

The owner says he has a bunch of cylinders and all is included in an already very friendly price.

To my great surprise I see him pull out a very early record case and when I open it.....I see all kinds of different wax colors. I then noticed the 1898 patent date on the case label.

Also, a box of 50+ celluloid records with some great titles.

I guess it was a lucky day today... .

Outstanding! Horn and bedplate are in real nice condition-- I hope you find some real gems among the records. Can't see much of the crane-- Original? Repro?

Gee - - you're suddenly a cylinder guy!

Congratulations - - as Brad notes, the horn and bedplate look nice, and those are key. The blue striping on Fireside bedplates is prone to turning silver when exposed to harsh cleaners, so leave it alone if possible.

You know....I had a feeling I was going to get ribbed... . Since the Edison decal is missing....I think I would put a Berliner "Gramophone" decal on... .

Thanks for the kind words. The machine is very clean. I removed the gold (model paint) Edison off the front and you can clearly see the original shadow of the decal.

The crane is original, as is the horn. The only parts missing in the hanger spring and knurled threaded disc nut on the crane hanger.

This, and a new main spring and "Edison" decal......and she is good to go.

That is one of Billy Murray's best, in my opinion... A testamentary to the Model T...

So, does this mean that any cylinder in the 5000 range is worth keeping..??.There are three more in that series.
