Who Got Them?

Something is a bit off here.
It says the boxes are for a VTLA and 2 of the 12" boxes have have issues staying closed. Boxes "C" and "F". If these are for a VTLA then the "C" box would be a 10". Also, I've never seen boxes with the letter on the bottom by the pull tabs. They have always been more in the center of the spine. Doesn't mean that a different version exists, I've just never seen them like that.

Mike,
Would they be right for an L-door XVI ?

These would be correct for a suffix-C or earlier L-door.
I have Victrola XVI suffix C (re-struck over "B"), s/n 19362, which has VTLA box-folders.
( And now that I've said "they're correct", I wonder if the lower letter placement on the spine narrows down the original application ?
Patent date on my folders is April 14, 1908. E-bay folders do not have a patent date on the maroon fly-leaf... )

What was the difference between these albums and the albums used in the Pooley VTLA's and the pre-1908 machines? I've often wondered about that. Or did it just take until 1908 before they put that patent information on the first page? I know the really early one's didn't come with letters on the spine. Hobby Lobby used to sell a set of peel and stick letters that were almost identical to the one's on these early albums. I don't know if they still sell them or not.

I found a full set of these for my Victrola XX and they are hard to find in good condition. I think someone got a bargain...

Bob,
What I should have said is the 10" boxes in a VTLA are "A", "B", "C", "H", "I" and "J". This seller said something about a 12" "C" album which would be incorrect for a VTLA. Might have been a typo on the sellers part. Like I said, I've never seen the boxes or albums in a Victrola with the letters on the bottom close to the pull tabs. Has anyone else seen then this low in a Victor machine?

I think some boxes used with early Pooley flat top & second type L-door VTLA's also came with no gold letters.

I certainly haven't! Something tells me these might have had gold glue-on letters added later on at some point.
