Victor R spindle size

Post by chrisg »

I picked up a Victor R ( regular dog on tag ) and it was missing the 7 inch turntable. I bought one advertised as an original R turntable.. I got it today and put it on my R and it flops around ( hole in turntable 1/16 larger than the spindle.. My spindle is .3125 (5/16) but the hole in turntable is .375 (⅜). both my R's have 5/16 spindles. is there a Royal with a ⅜" spindle or did seller and forum member make a mistake

The lettered Victors like the R, M, MS, and E have a smaller hole in the turntable compared to the numbered series such as a Victor I, II, etc. I suspect your turntable was drilled out for some reason although I can't think of a numbered machine that used a 7" turntable. I can't think of a logical reason for a Victor 7" turntable to have the larger hole. Even the inexpensive Victor Junior had an 8" turntable.

I suspect it was an honest mistake by the seller but I'd ask for a refund or pay to have a bushing made.

Sometimes parts from other manufactures are mistaken for Victor. Is it possible that it's a Talk-O-Phone turntable? What is stamped on the underside of the turntable.

I'm starting to ramble here. What do others think?
