Horn Retouching

Post by Lucius1958 »

Just tried an inexpensive, non-damaging method for touching up paint loss on horns: get a set of children's washable markers, pick the colors nearest to the paint color, and carefully apply them over the scratches.

When dry, rub very gently with a soft cloth to remove the excess and even out the tone. This tones down the damage without damaging the existing paint; it is also reversible.

A couple of shots of the H&S horn I recently bought (you can perhaps see the 'before' photos in Yankee Trader):

Note: the dark spots are areas that were not yet dry at the time of the photo: they are now far less evident.
