I have nearly given up buying records and phono-related stuff on eBay, the sellers have become so greedy. Even once-reasonable sellers that I have done repeat business with for years have gone completely over the edge.

Here is the item in question. You can ask any price you want for an item but you still need to find a buyer willing to pay the asking price.

Does that include the rust? Or, is that extra?

The seller is looking for someone who needs a screw and a potential buyer is going to get screwed...

Based on this seller's price, I have given away hundreds of dollars. Not to mention the gold plated screws.

Ken, take a look at this one --- only $249 BIN + $75 shipping!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victor-Victrola ... 2518.l4276 There are two screws (worth $10.00 each) sitting in the needle cup assembly, but I don't know how the seller can justify the other $229! Somebody snap this up before the seller realizes this is actually made of oak, and not mahogany as stated! I thought this was a job for duct, not packing, tape! At least with all of the pictures, you know just what you are getting for your money...

I will have to snap that up right away. Especially since it can be shipped "Priority Mail"

The seller also has it listed as a VV-IX, but in the description he calls it a VV-XII. He also states that
"Exceedingly rare. In early 1900s Victor made fewer than 5,000 of them in all, and most have been collected. This particular Victrola VV XII however complete and original has suffered in a previous shipping process." (direct quote from the listing)
I think 500,000 units made would be more appropriate for an VV-IX..... but who are we to speculate on such a rare machine?
AND "complete" ???? There is a huge chunk of wood missing from the front!!
