Cygnet horn crane question

I recently got a reproduction cygnet crane. Compared to others I've seen it appears to have a different setup for actually holding the horn. Mine merely has a groove at the end of the rod. A modern spring was attached to the (original) cygnet horn bell that came with it. There is no adjustable bolt setup, nor does there appear to be any way to attach one.

Has anyone seen this setup? Are there parts missing? I have not attempted to install the crane yet...

Thanks in advance for advice and info.

Kevin

It would be far better to post pics of what you have. Here is a horn crane I just bought with a Fireside and the hanger is missing the spring and adjustment nut.

Pictures. Note end of support rod merely has a groove.

Ooops! :( That's not a cygnet crane... It looks like it may have been an original crane rod (or possibly a stair rod) that someone decided to "make" into a cygnet crane. This can be straightened with a nice big vice.

Ron Sitko sells nice reproduction cygnet cranes, or if you're going to Union you can probably find one. :)

Yeah, I thought it looked kind of homemade, but anything's possible.

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, it may be homemade, but it does the job. When you hook the spring into the groove at the top of the post, it locks in pretty well and holds things right where they need to be. Here are a couple of photos. Please pardon the poor lighting.

Between the Steve Medved rebuilt H reproducer and the cygnet horn, this thing is LOUD! I have a rebuilt S I can put on this too, but I think my landlord would probably throw me out on the spot!
