Hi all,

I have a french Aérophone that has a brass horn that till now I thought it was clearly not original.

This is my Aérophone (on the left side):
This is an original Aérophone horn (with another Aérophone model but the horn should be the same):
Doing some research I have discovered some hints that might lead to an explanation about this horn. One one hand, I came across a German catalog that among all the gramophones it shows clearly an Aérophone box like my one but with a non Aérophone horn:

Catalog: On the left side: And by chance looking for a totally unrelated info I ended in this picture on a german website showing a gramophone that I can not identify with exactly the same horn that I have:
So I have the suspicion that this horn has some German relationship. I think its not an Indian reproduction because is very heavy and well made not like the craphophone horns I've seen many times.

Any ideas, hints or comments about the origin of my horn will be much appreciated.

In the pictures the horn looks more like a gold painted tin "peacock" horn - peacock because they are usually found with multi-coloured paint resembling peacock feathers. Is it definitely brass? As for the pattern of horn this is a very typical Swiss / German design and found on many generic models on the European continent. There is no way of identifying without a catalogue if that style of horn is correct or not.

well i don't need an catalog to know that horn is indeed correct for that model i have a photo archive with 15000 pics of phono's of all types and makes i have seen this aerophone with that horn several times on ebay france over the last 10 years
it also came with the normal aerophone horn
aerophone is a french brand the motors of aerophone are swiss of the paillard type the cases however are german of the lindsrom(parlophone) type tino

I too have to agree with Steve. I also (as you already know) believe that horn did not come on an Aerophone originally.

Unfortunately, Tino is showing you your own machine when it was listed on Ebay.... .

Steve, Its brass 100% sure. I can even see the tin solder used to fix the elbow. Its non magnetic and it tarnishes as brass does.

Thanks for the info about the name of the horn and possible Swiss/German origin.

Yes, that is my machine. Now it has a more correct platter (cast iron and almost of the correct size) and I got rid of that horrible piece of orange rubber that was holding the elbow of the reproducer.

Ebay cannot replace serious research supported by original sources.
