My new gramophone has just arrived from France and I'd appreciate your thoughts on it.

I can find no evidence of the motor being replaced , no extra holes in the motor board or anything.
I can't get the turntable off at present to take a pic of that.

The suspicious escutcheon just seems to be hiding the fact that someone lost the original escutcheon , it seems to be the original location of the winding handle.
The motor can only be accessed from the bottom of the case.
The back bracket seems to be original as there are no extra holes there.
The Exhibition reproducer , No 345206 , is in need of a diaphragm and gaskets.

Seems very possible that HMV was going through the old parts bins and shipping the results overseas.

Steve, You have a late Baby Monarch. Everything is correct on it. It's basically the same as the later Victor I. The motor board is hinged on the late Victor I. Yours is stationary. Your machine has the characteristics of a 1909-10 era machine when the later Victor I machines came out. Thanks for clarifying the crank escutcheon. It uses the typical one for outside horn Victors and early Victrolas. These turn up quite a bit. All you have to do is fill in the holes and match the finish. It will be a nice machine when you get done with it.

I managed to get the turntable off tonight and the motor out , with a little bit of adjustment it'll be a nice quiet motor so now its time to get the cleaners and the polish out!
