Edison Diamond C Repair

I have just gotten an Edison Amberola 30 with a Diamond C reproducer. When I played a cylinder, it would repeat the groove. When I checked the reproducer, the pivot points were stuck. I oiled them, and it turned out the spring that holds the weight was broken. It was jammed in the block. I disassembled it and got out the broken spring pieces. If I can't get a spring, any ideas on how to make one? Does it have to be spring steel? Will another strong thin metal work such as tin, brass or copper?

Your best bet would be to get an original from someone like George V.
If you have to make your own, spring steel is the metal to use. You might be able to find what is called 'feeler stock' (if you can find some of the right gauge and width). The screw and pin holes would have to be punched, rather than drilled, in such a hard material, though.

Harvey, Originals are around.. Check ebay...I'm sure that you can find a Diamond C with a bad needle at a good price and just salvage the part.. George Vollema is good to, but ebay may be a bit cheaper possibly. George is a really good guy.
Here's a good one and broken one on ebay.... The good one is the one you need....Only $30 bucks! Mark, The "Frog" is selling it.. I know him well.

Actually, I sent the reproducer to be rebuilt with the new spring. It's cheaper in the long run, and I know it will be done right. Thanks for the replies.
