What can anybody tell me about these machines? I know they are Canadian and have a paper mache like horn, i just purchased this with all its parts for $40< there is no model info found anywhere on it

George McLagan's furniture company was located in Stratford Ontario and made some of the finest Canadian Arts & Crafts furniture. I have been collecting it for years.

It would appear you have a model M23.

McLagan was in business into the 1940s at least. I have a Canadian RCA radio from 1933 that has a cabinet manufactured by McLagan.
And their furniture as gramophone78 has pointed out is lovely. Here's an ad from 1930. Note how they say " The acquisition of McLagan Built furniture is not confined to the wealthy.It is available to practically all Canadian homemakers." They say that, but according to my grandmother, it was very pricey indeed.

There were some great furniture makers in and around Stratford. McLagan, Strathroy and The Stratford Chair Company are just a few of the higher quality manufactures.

I collect all three of their early A&C line.

Keith Wright (of Canadian CAPS) really put together a great site covering much of this area and in particular Phonographs made by them.

The cabinet of my 1936 Philco 3650 was manufactured by Mclagan as well.

Vince, that's a LOT nicer than my 37-610 American Philco "tombstone"...

The American equivalent of mine is a 650B

It's fully restored (case refinished) and it sounds incredible.
I love listening to it.

Your 630-B is beautiful. Did you refinished the case yourself?
I'm also a radio collector and restorer. My everyday radio is my 1938 Zenith 9s262.

Yes I refinished myself.

And I preserved the McLagan badge that was tacked on to the rear of the cabinet.

I was actually pretty surprised to see the name, as a few McLagan machines had passed through
my hands and I had no idea they did work for a large brand like Philco.
