WANTED: Meet-ups in Metro-Detroit

First of all, please forgive me if I am posting this in the improper forum; I don't really know where it should go.

Now then.

I am noticing more and more profile tags locating people in Michigan, and I was wondering if any of you within, say 1 hour of Metro Detroit would be willing to have occasional meet-ups at each others' houses to listen to records and look at machines, and generally be friendly.

If there is already a group that does this, I would be interested in joining.

It's a really nice idea. I wish there were people that lived close to me here in New Hampshire!

I wish you all the best in getting something like this started in your area. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we have a club (OTAPS http://otaps/org/) that meets at peoples home 4 or 5 times a year as far north as British Columbia to Southern Oregon. I must say that some of my best friends are part of this group and the combined knowledge and help I get from them is invaluable. We also use each other as contacts for buying and selling which is also part of most of our meet ups. I always look forward to seeing others collections and love sharing mine as well.

Dan

I live less than one hour from Detroit , near Kingsville Ontario , which is about 30 miles from the Ambassador Bridge crossing between Michigan and Ontario .... You will need a Pass Port to cross the border .....there are about 5 of us who meet in a group called the "Cedar Island Antique Phonograph Society" about once a month at my house on Cedar Island ...you would be more than welcome to join in ....you must be able to tolerate cigars and pipe smoke , scratchy records , and the occasional Alma Gluck...

While the Antique Phonograph Society does not have local chapters, we encourage regional societies and individuals to hold meetings and home get-togethers throughout the year. We even promote them under "Future Events" and "Regional Society Newsletters/Reports" on the website (www.antiquephono.org.).

There are regional groups covering a good part of the US, including the Pacific Northwest, California, the upper and central Midwest, the Carolinas and New England. At no charge, we will distribute member prepared electronic invitations/notices of upcoming non-commercial events hosted by an APS member. We most recently did this for a Los Angeles celebration of Billy Murray's birthday (with a program prepared by APS member Marc Friend), attended by more than 40.

For further information, please feel free to contact me directly. :)

George Paul, APS President

Thank you very much for the invite, but I do not have a passport! I will need to get one first. In the meantime, if y'all ever find yourselves on this side of the river, feel free to shoot me a message. My collection is not large but I love to show it off!

Go get a passport and then get a ride into Toronto on a weekend that we're having a CAPS meeting
--> http://www.capsnews.org/index.htm

There's usually around 50 or so members present who all love talking shop,
and you can pick up some awesome stuff at the auction for Canadian $$$.

Let me know in advance the weekend that you're coming and I'll give you a great tour
of our awesome city.

A passport is one way. Getting an enhanced driver's license also works well. Just go to the Sec.-O-State office and tell them you want one.

That's actually something I never thought of! I guess the fee is only like $45, and I meet all the requirements, so I will have to do that.
