I was walking around the flea market and spotted this cabinet. The man who owns it says it's a sheet music cabinet but I'm not sure. Any thoughts? He wants $65 for it.

Honestly to me it looks like the bottom half of a oak Off-Brand phonograph with a board of wood on top. The top wood doesn't match the bottom.

Yes it is a record cabinet. A bit later, made to hold a victrola style machine (typically). It probably has horizontal shelves internally. They are relatively common. John

What company made it? Is $65 a good deal?

If you have a machine that will look good under it, and fits nicely (machine should be same dimensions or somewhat smaller than the top IMO) - it is a fair deal. The price is what it is worth IMO. Note, the knobs are replacements. Not sure of the maker. John

For $65 I would buy it for sure. I'm sure it is a record cabinet.

Looks like it would go well with a Victrola VIII in oak ?

I have a nearly identical cabinet that I got from estott with a VV-VI on top and it fits quite nicely. I agree that an oak VV-VIII would be the perfect fit. Mine only has one shelf and was obviously made for albums in an upright position. I would not think twice for $65, but maybe my area is more expensive.

I think its a good deal at 65.00; A Oak VV-IV, VI even an VIII would probably fit just fine. I would buy that for one of my machines, but they rarely do, and when they do, they are beat up mahogany....the local antique mall has one for $ 495.00; with a old beat up VV-IX.

So....I think $65.00 is a deal....I would just swap those knobs out with some replacement Victrola knobs...reproductions can be obtained.
