1927 Victor 10-50 Automatic Orthophonic Victrola.

Hello; I want to introduce myself to the group and share my new 1927 Victor 10-50 Automatic Orthophonic Victrola.
I've been collecting antique sound devices for quite a while. I have had other acoustic phonographs before, but the 10-50 sound is impressive. The tonal quality and volume are striking. I have had to partially close the doors to the horn 'speaker' because it was so loud. I am using Laubscher needles in the Orthophonic sound box.
This is one of the later 10-50's, and the lamp is located on top.
This is the first acoustic phonograph that I enjoy playing. The record changer has been adjusted, missing or damaged parts have been replaced, and the cabinet has been refinished. It took the cabinet shop over two months to do, and I'm pleased with the result. Everything works perfectly.
It's missing the record album holders, so I'm searching for those.

Welcome to the forum, Jim! I hope you enjoy browsing the posts. You have a beautiful machine!
If I had to pick just one Orthophonic to keep, it would be my 10-50. I like my others for different reasons, but it's hard to beat the sound with one of the largest enclosed horns available (I think perhaps HMV had the only larger horn in its premium changer).
I'd recommend considering using cactus-thorn needles. New old-stock packages are often available on Ebay, and when used with a sharpener, one needle will last a very long time, and will reduce record wear. Volume is quite sufficient.
They work best with pristine records, and when playing a group of low-volume records I can play through a full dozen sides before re-sharpening the point.

lovely machine and superb work on that cabinet. Out of interest where did you get a replacement record lift pad. I have one for the changer in my 9-55 but it is quite a rough looking casting made a number of years ago. I am looking for a better recast one.
It is interesting that the record holding cases were a different design for the 9-55. The overall design was identical but instead of being lettered as shown in the post above they are numbered and have fancy gold scroll work on the exposed spine.

I can sure see why the refinishing took so long! That must have been a BIG job! Looks beautiful. With my crummy eyes, I have to bend over and squint to get the needle set right in the first groove. I can see myself getting my head inside the box and then standing up and bumping my head on the top!
