There is one one ebay right now and there was one in Chicago on craigslist a few months ago for $250. I think $800 is a little on the rich side for one that needs restoration, or am I nuts on that?

You are right, $800 is high considering what it would cost to have the restoration farmed out. I would think $350 would be more like it.

One recently sold for $4,800 without any of the internal parts "just the cabinet".
Really! When sellers make claims like that, I wish they would post the source for that information. Often, they mean some joker posted an asking price that high.

I've seen one complete (less albums) sell for $160 at auction...

(And I could have sworn it was a liquor cabinet for years  ? )

The guy bought it for a few benjamins on a local online auction site. I'm going to say the guy is a flipper, otherwise he wouldn't have started the price out at $1800 or so, and has continued to keep lowering it.

Also, there's one coming up at auction at Stanton auction in Hampden, MA
