The Talking Machine Forum — For All Antique Phonographs & Recordings

I recently acquired this unusual table top phonograph by the H. Schroder Hornless Phonograph Mfg Co. Very interesting in that it does actually have a small (7") horn under the lid pointing towards the back with a reflex type sound board. With a patent date of Feb 1907, it was very early in the evolution of inside horn machines. Has anyone seen a similiar machine or have any information on the manufacturer?

Similar tone arms are found on some late portable phonographs as well with matching reflective lid.

nice machine. did you by any chance pick this up within the past few months through an auction in florida?

I ask because I've never seen one before, except in that auction... so if yours is from somewhere else, that would mean that there are at least two of these floating around.

The principle is the same as a Victrola 50, where the case becomes the "horn". I also have an "Arionola", which reflects sound from the back of the cabinet instead of a horn.
