The reproducer is from a German "Hero" horn machine... as seen on Howard Hope's page.

The question I have is, Does the G.H. stand for German HERO ???
And, how does a reproducer made in Yellow Springs Ohio, end up on a 1908-10 German machine ???

The reproducer wasn't made in Yello Springs, Ohio. It is an early German reproducer and the name "Parcival" is more often found around the circumference. Maybe it was bought in and re-badged by the retailer in the US? "G.H." doesn't stand for German Hero either! The name "Hero" is simply one particular brand name given to some of the machines that used these parts, which were often made by Lindstrom industries. Various retailers / importers worldwide imported Lindstrom products and machines over the years and these were often given new names.
What you have there is a very fine soundbox though! If bids outside the US were permitted I'd have a go myself.

The GH could be short for "GmbH". Which stands for "company" on German made products....

. Like Steve, I have seen this sound box branded with different names.

Duh, why didn't I think of that?

You're right, gramophone78, the GH is an abbreviation of the abbreviation GmbH. Were they short of space?
I'm having an on-going conversation elsewhere about early German machines, their manufacture, distribution and marketing in non-German territories. The same machine can be found in various catalogues with different brand and model names. I believe the same was true in the US with mail order companies offering "foreign" products with US sounding names?

"Historic Factoid": This German reproducer actually had a unique dual purpose... it was great for playing records, but it was a ripoff of Edison's Autograph pen. During WWI, before DNA identification, many German soldiers who were killed went unidentified... This reproducer could be converted to a tattoo machine when needed and it became popular for German soldiers to tattoo ID numbers on various body parts - hands, feet, legs, arms, etc. In the event a soldier was blown to bits or mangled beyond recognition, the body parts could be collected and at least put in the correct pile for identification.
The picture below shows the original Edison design...

'Tis a great pity worldwide shipping wasn't offered. I have a sneaking suspicion this might have made quite a lot more than it did.
