Sorry for an other post so quickly from a complete noob. I pick up a portable phonograph at an auction a few months back. The thing works, but I can not find any identification as to who made the thing or what it is. There is nothing really special about it just a wood box. Just would like to know a bit more about it. Can any one help?

The reproducer head is not familiar to me, but the platter, brake, speed control, and tapering=arm look like those found on the plywood & leatherette Birch portables from the 1930's - '40s...

The reproducer resembles a Silvertone Tru-Phonics reproducer. The faceplate is a little different, but the body of the reproducer is similar.

Thanks for the help. It is always interesting what you find on the internet. I did a search for Silvertone as suggested, and came across a picture of a nice leatherette covered portable identified as a puritone. The tone arm and reproducer cover design match the one on mine. With a little more searching I found a picture of a second puritone portable. Both had a record holder on the lid with the puritone name. Neither was the same as mine but matched the tone arm, reproducer, speed control, break and "parking spot" for the reproducer. Does anyone know of this company. I could find very little information. Still not sure it is what I have, but it is a place to start.
