Astronomical asking price and dark pictures aside...

An interesting model in what appears to me, to be Circassian walnut.

"So beautiful, you'll want to display it in your living room."

My wife would say otherwise...

"A real conversation piece."

I can just imagine the conversation(s)... :o

Beautiful craftsmanship and if the last photo is more in line with the colour it sure would display nice.
I am however, sure that if I acquired it I would have lots of room to display this machine once my wife removes her 50 % of our belongings and the lawyer takes his share of the rest.

Interestingly, this machine has the wooden tone arm, similar to the most expensive Sonora uprights.

Could someone message this person and let them know that their $500 Sonora should not be called a "victrola"?
You would think that if they had something that they believed was worth 5K, at the very least they would know the proper title to attach to it!

OK...I feel better now.

Victrola has been a generic term for these machines since the day of the Victrola. Anyhow, it is very helpful in Craigslist searches- if you search Phonograph you need to wade through tons of derelict Hi-Fi units

No kidding??
My point was...yet another anonymous person who has no clue what they have. However, because it is old, it must be worth a fortune, so let's put a 5K price tag on it. That's all. Just as we see on eBay every time we log on, and also what we see at most generic auctions. Buyers, sellers, auctioneers, and so forth who are totally oblivious to to real value of items. It still to this day annoys me to the point of frustration. I can see a rarer, more valuable machine exceeding the true value of what the marketplace has established for it. It is simply these sorts of machines (victrolas, as has been pointed out), that will never have the distinction of being valuable or rare that are touted as such, therefore possessing the seller to promote it as such and expecting a fortune for it.
That's all.

Or at least pictures where you could remotely make out what the heck they are trying to sell?
