"Phonola Record Player With HUGE Brass Horn Really Nice Condition. This is an Estate Sale find that sellers said was in working condition. Brass Horn screws into base or record player easily. I cannot secure the into the pick up head into the sound arm. I did use a pice of a hose gasket to secure it to the arm, see last pic and it did work. Cracks up and spins with no problem, stops and starts as it should.

Yes, something IS missing - the original phonograph that the reproducer is from...

Just the guts from a commonplace portable- Phonola was the trademark of the Waters-Conley Co. a big builder in the 30's and 40's.

I considered doing this with a nice mahogany silver chest once, using the works from a beat up Viva-Tonal portable.

The arm, autobrake, and speed control all look identical to those on my Columbia G50. I'm guessing someone gutted a Columbia portable and stuffed it into a new box.

If that Columbia portable was like mine the case was made from flimsy wood and thin cardboard. Their mechanical components were as good as ever (HMV by that time, really) but everything else went downhill

No cardboard and the whole case is ½ inch solid wood covered in textured grey paint, its a good little machine.

Are you saying that this is actually a machine that was built that way? A portable with a brass horn???

No, this isn't my portable, there are pictures of it somewhere on this forum. I wish I had an external horn disc machine, but not that ....thing.
