Turntable question

Picked up a very nice VV-35 and am in the process of cleaning it up and noticed that the turntable goes up and down in a wavy fashion like a drunken sailor. Taking it apart I find that I by wigging the turntable a bit and applying pressure from the top I got it off. On a flat surface the turntable is more than ¼" off. Not having had to deal with this before I wonder if putting a steel rod through the turntable and gently pulling on it might make this condition better. Anyone tried this before...or any other ideas?

Thx in advance for the help
Abe

Hi Abe, I was a Sailor, but not a drunken one   Is the nub on the bottom of the turntable crooked? Is so, then a steel rod, use a long one say about a foot should give you enough torque to straighten out the nub. If the nub is straight, the the spindle is probably bent.

Rotate the turntable by hand until you locate the lowest spot... use your hand to lift the edge (use necessary force) and straighten it. It might take several times...

Be careful doing that. You could bend the spindle.

Using both ideas that were provided I came up with another; since I have rebuilt cars as a hobby for years (no so many cars-more phonos) i have a lot of tools. Looking at my tool boxes I came up with this. I used the idea of marking the high spot area and then clamped the turntable face down on my work bench. I found a socket that was a very close fit over the mounting hub (½"type long socket) fitted the long breaker bar and applied pressure-it took 5 attempts but now its almost perfect.

Thx for the help!
