My lord, look at that horn! I don't recognize the motor, though... Is that how they used to be before the '14 fire?

That's the"A" type motor for the "250" model; hence an "A 250".

I should add, "Yes" this is a pre-fire A series motor. After the great fire, it seems that the engineering philosophy greatly changed across the board. The "B" type motor was introduced, and that is the familiar platform we see in the B and C series Diamond Disc Phonographs (except for the B 60 and B 80).

ALL Edison Disc Phonograph models after the fire and onward used the "B" Type platform (except for the B-60 and B-80) paired with either one or two springs, and one of the three various sized horns (the "100", "150" or "250").

In the September 1915 issue of the Edison Phonograph Monthly an article details a presentation that was given at the August 9th Dealer's convention -- at the Edison Factory -- by John Constable (an Edison Laboratory Engineer). In it he details the construction of a "standard" 250 mechanism and how it should be repaired and maintained by servicemen in the field.

Agreed! Lately I've noted several A/B250s for sale nationwide, but for much, much less. Granted many of them weren't in as nice condition.

There's one for sale in Minnesota now for %150 as I recall but condition is everything. I don't think the price is unreasonable for an oak machine in that condition. i must admit, I've paid a good bit more.

The finish on the horn and motor plate on this particular one are outstanding IMHO!

That's what really struck me, as well. Other than the A series motor, which is new to me.

Well then...we must have witnessed the recovery of the phonograph market!
If this machine is worth $1000, A Victor VI should be fetching $7500 easy.

What would be a rational value on this? I wouldn't pay this much, but really don't have any idea what it should be.
