NYTimes article: Czech company success in Vinyl Records

Fascinating article about GZ Media, a Czech company, and its success because of the resurgence of global interest in Vinyl Records and record music. At the minimum, Bruce would find this interesting given the Czech connection!

Wow. I would never have guessed that 20 million records would ever be produced again...ever!

Wow I handn't heard about them but I had read recently of SEV Litovel, another Czech company, producing of 96,000 "gramophones" in 2014, with hopes to break 100,000 in 2015

I am sure a new long play Edison record would have to be made out of a very hard compound like Bakelite or Edison variation Condensite. I am not sure if these materials are still widely used as I recall they are both very old thermosetting plastics and I do not think other record companies used it. Since these materials are not so dangerous as flammable celluloid, they are more likely to be sill in the market place.

Thats just the current year estimate for the one maker in the story. There are other vinyl factories worldwide, so the total amount pressed is much greater than that.

Exactly, that's what amazes me. I've been listening to vinyl my entire life, and by about 20 years ago, I was the only one in my social group that still did. (I did, however, use CDs and SACDs too.)
About 10 years ago, I dug out some of my old gear from the 60s and 70s and finally upgraded my audio gear with rebuilds and some new amps. Tube gear all the way for two of my primary systems.
