I have several tabletops I want to get off the floor and get them on a stand.
It is hard to find them nearby, and costly to ship.

What about the new Crosley Record Cabinets (in Oak, Mahogany etc.)?

I am not familiar with them, but would assume that like most modern "furniture", they are made from flake-board with some sort of wood-grain effect.

Furniture pieces made from "composite wood" ( particle board, mdf, etc ) tends to sag, come-apart under load, over time.

Be very careful what you choose to place a talking machine on.

You might do well to check-out vendors who sell un-finished furniture, and do a DYI thing...

Thanks for the advice, I was thinking that too, I may just go to a place over here by me that sells unfinished furniture.

If they have the same build quality as the Crosley turntables of late, stay away. However, I often find the genuine cabinets in antique malls and also on Kijiji. The prices are often quite reasonable. It's also best to have an original.

I looked at the Crosley ones on Amazon and the description states hardwood construction. In the stats, material is listed as wood rather than composite. Seems to me like it would be doable based on these facts (although frankly IMO it's still a bit of a gamble, the listing could be wrong) but I agree with others, originals would be best. That's what I am holding out for.

I'd be skeptical until I saw one in person...

I'd bet a fresh, hot Krispy-Kreme donut that the "hardwoods" refers to the veneer, and at best, the core material of the carcass might be hardwood plywood...

Suggest carefully reviewing the measurements, photos, and the customer reviews...

Caveat emptor.

Look for either old piano roll or sheet music cabinets. They were mass produced from about 1900-1925 and are not too tough to find today. My wife has a couple and I don't think she paid more than $60 or so for any of them.

Avoid particleboard stuff like the plague...

I'm pretty sure that's a sheet music cabinet, not a phonograph cabinet.
