Had to go back today and see what else I could buy. Well I found another Edison Edisonic Reproducer, some Zon-O-Phone records, a nice Edison 1925 Calander with a great picture of him, a couple nice needle tins, two nice posters for the wall, and two more Diamond Discs "Let Us Not Forget / National Airs" and an unnumbered one " Telegraph B". I am not familiar with the second, does anyone know anything about this title?

I need to get out of my lounge chair and start looking around more!

Congratulations on a great two-day haul!

Edison recorded two Diamond Discs of telegraphed messages. The first, done in 1920, was recorded by TAE himself and appears to be matrix 7469. The second, from 1922, was dictated and supervised by TAE, but keyed by someone else. That appears to be matrix 1571. Yours is likely the later recording, but you should check the matrix numbers to be sure.

Thanks for your input. I think you meant 7459. The strange thing about this record is the only numbers etched into the record below the label is 10086-B-1-1. I'll attach a closeup of it.

The photo on p.37 of the Collector's Guide appears to show 7469 but it's blurry. However, I checked the Excel file from truesound transfers and 7459 is correct for that record.

Your matrix 10086 is also listed in the Excel file, as a 1925 morse message, approved by TAE, but again, not keyed by him. If you search through that file for "morse code", there are several more of these.

What were these Morse Code records used for? Certainly not for general entertainment!

Thanks,

I think they were used to train and test transcribers. I've seen a whole set of telegraphic 78's

No, the Diamond Discs that were keyed or overseen by TAE were simply messages to the telegraphy and Morse code community. They were not intended as training discs.

Are the Morse discs available to be heard online anywhere? This is the clicky-style railroad Morse, not the code used in radiotelegraphy, and thus not readable by as many of us, but it would still be fun to hear.
