Hi everyone,
I would just want your opinion on which you prefer: an Edison Standard Phonograph or an Edison Home Phonograph.

Home "B" with 2/4 capability. Reason is that I own one, while they are quite finicky, they are quite robust, I think it has a better motor than the standard.

It depends on what you are about to do with it. For mobile use I would go for the Standard, but at home it's the Home that's doing for me the better work. Especially with the earlier end-gate machines, the Home is much safer to use as you flip it around, thus not scratching the cylinder while slipping it onto the mandrel.

A good friend once pointed out, the Home does not look so much like a toy.

I like both but do own a B & D standard love them

The "POLL" function has not work on this forum for years now.. .

I have several "Homes": A 2&4, B 2-minute, B 2&4, D 2&4, and two Standards: B 2-minute, and a B+ ICS with 2&4 gearing.


I have found the Standards to be less "fussy" about even running; might be a little noisier running, with those spur-gears above the deck, but not that you'd hear over a cylinder playing.


Not sure I can recommend one over the other.


If shelf / table space is at a premium, the Standard takes-up less room.

I have a Home B (that I added the 2/4 gearing to) and a Standard D.

At the moment, the Home B plays a bit better, but the Standard D has a bit of run-out on the end of the mandrel. Once this is corrected, I don't think I will prefer one over the other (nice to have two different ones to listen to, though).

Both are very nice machines, IMHO.
